Public Sessions
Everyone, especially visitors and non members, are welcome to attend public observing sessions. It's an opportunity to learn from experienced observers and look through a variety of telescopes. For more info about what these events are like, please contact one of our Officers or post a message to our email list.
- The club also co-sponsors viewing sessions with the Morehead Planetarium. These sessions are of two types: a monthly public observing session (schedule is here), and a session at the end of the Paddle under the Stars outings. While the latter are aimed specifically at the participants in the outing, everyone is welcome.
- Dr. Ronen Plesser of Duke University has regular public observing sessions at the Duke Teaching Observatory on Cornwallis Rd every Friday with decent observing weather. The Fridays of the first-quarter moon are included below.
Member Only Observing Sites:
- On the weekend of the last-quarter moon we use Farrington Point Boat Ramp (about 30 minutes south of Chapel Hill).
- A site at a state park just over the Virginia line is being developed as well.
